Wi-fi Motion Detection
Mindhash validated Liberty Global’s Wi-Fi Motion Detection system. This system is able to detect motion by measuring disturbance in Wi-Fi signals, even when the person is not carrying a Wifi device.
The system can be used in smart homes to turn lights on or off based on whether someone is present in the room. It can detect adults, children and even pets. We validated accuracy, precision, delay, etc of the system in both a lab environment and three types of homes. During this trial we performed tests where we performed precisely timed movements in grid like patterns to get an accurate view of how the environment influences the motion detection system. On top of that we performed longevity tests where we recorded data for a couple of months in order to describe performance over a longer time period. We created infrastructure to record data from the local test sites and send it to storage servers. With our dashboarding we could, in real time, keep an eye on the systems while testing. Final data crunching of sensordata of every 500ms each system was online, was done in Jupyter labs.
